Seattle brings the best fan culture in American soccer. Lumen Field is legendary for its noise — the Sounders' supporters are among the most passionate in MLS. The Pacific Northwest's cool summer weather will be a welcome relief for fans.
SEA-TAC airport connects via Link Light Rail directly to downtown and the stadium (SODO station). The city has excellent public transit. Walking and biking are easy in downtown. No car needed for most World Cup activities.
Downtown Seattle and Capitol Hill are walkable to the stadium. Pioneer Square is the closest neighborhood. Ballard and Fremont are charming alternatives. Prices are moderate for a major US city. Book early for waterfront hotels with views.
Pike Place Market is iconic — watch the fish throwers and explore the stalls. Seattle's coffee culture goes way beyond Starbucks (try Elm Coffee Roasters or Victrola). Fresh seafood is incredible — Dungeness crab, oysters, and salmon. International District has excellent Asian cuisine.
The area around Lumen Field (SoDo district) will be electrified. Occidental Square in Pioneer Square is the traditional Sounders gathering spot. Capitol Hill has the best bar and nightlife scene. Expect spontaneous street celebrations throughout the city.
Seattle is safe in tourist areas. Pioneer Square can be sketchy late at night. Bring a light rain jacket — Seattle drizzle is real even in summer. The city is very LGBTQ-friendly. Cannabis is legal in Washington state.
June-July is actually Seattle's best weather — expect sunny days in the low 70s°F. The original Starbucks at Pike Place is overrated (long lines, same coffee). Take the ferry to Bainbridge Island for stunning Puget Sound views. The Space Needle is worth doing once.
