Kansas City is the heart of America — friendly, affordable, and passionate about sports. Arrowhead Stadium is one of the loudest venues in the world. KC's growing soccer culture (Sporting KC, KC Current) means fans know the game.
MCI airport is 20 minutes from downtown. KC has a new streetcar line downtown (free!) but Arrowhead is in the Truman Sports Complex east of downtown — rideshare or special shuttles are the best bet. The city is very car-dependent overall.
Downtown KC and the Power & Light District have the most options. Westport and the Country Club Plaza are charming neighborhoods. Hotels near the stadium are limited but expanding. KC is one of the most affordable host cities.
KC BBQ is legendary — Joe's Kansas City, Q39, and Gates are essentials. The city has 200+ BBQ joints. Beyond BBQ, the Crossroads Arts District has excellent restaurants. Vietnamese on Southwest Boulevard is a hidden gem. Don't miss burnt ends.
Power & Light District downtown will be the main fan zone hub. The Crossroads and Westport neighborhoods have great bar scenes. Sporting KC's fanbase will bring soccer-specific culture. The National WWI Museum area is a gathering point.
Downtown KC and tourist areas are safe. The midwestern friendliness is real — people go out of their way to help visitors. Summer heat is significant but not as extreme as Texas. Thunderstorms can be dramatic — check the forecast.
Kansas City straddles two states (Kansas and Missouri) — the stadium is on the Missouri side. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is free and world-class. Fountain City has more fountains than Rome. Barbecue breakfast is a thing here. The jazz scene in 18th & Vine is authentic.
